46: Overcoming Scarcity Mindset with the Millennial Money Therapist

Danielle Bailey is a social worker based in Louisiana who is on a mission to help others build generational wealth. On her YouTube channel, she shares insight on money, being in private practice, and mental health. In this podcast, she shares how she has been overcoming her family’s scarcity mindset, how she uses her faith to help her move toward her goals, and what she does to remind herself and others that they are worthy of making money.

Episode Takeaways

  1. You are worthy of having money. In my full moon parties, I’ve heard a theme of “I don’t deserve this much,” or “I’m greedy for wanting more.” Danielle shared how she works on creating new mantras in her family by telling her nephews “you are worthy of making more.”

  2. Embrace your faith or spirituality. In episode 17 of this podcast, I discussed how to cultivate an abundance mindset without spiritual bypassing. Daniele shared a similar sentiment in the interview, saying that she prays and takes action toward achieving her goals.

  3. Learn about your family history with compassion. Danielle said she had to look at her mother’s scarcity mindset with compassion, empathizing that the reason her mom behaved in certain ways with money was due to a true experience with poverty. She said she understands where her mom came from, and doing so with compassion helps her understand why the behaviors are there in the first place. In strengths-based psychology, we look at people’s behaviors with the lens of “how did this behavior help them?” rather than “what’s wrong with them?”
