34: The Opposite of Grinding with the Entrepreneurial Therapist

Danielle Swimm did what a lot of us do when we are trying to increase our income: she worked longer and harder. When that didn’t work and the warning signs of burnout started to flash, she changed course and decided to go into private practice. Danielle talks about making this move intentionally and strategically in today’s episode. We also cover the importance of community, communication, and giving yourself grace as you work on your relationship with money.

Takeaways:

  1. Importance of knowing you aren’t alone. Normalizing and validating that money work can be tough but you don’t have to do it alone. Joining a community, whether it’s a Mighty Networks group for personal finance nerds, or a group coaching program for therapists like Grow a Profitable Practice from the Inside Out, having others there provides you with a community. We know that we are more likely to achieve our goals when we have others who are working on similar things alongside us.

  2. Open communication with others. Whether talking to your romantic partner or business partner, having open and honest conversations with others helps to build trust. Keeping this line of communication open provides the partnership with a reminder that money is safe to talk about. Monthly, I recommend my financial therapy clients take a look at four things: own, owe, earn, and spend.

  3. Financial Gratitude Takes Time. Don’t expect to have an easy and calm relationship with money right away! Getting in a good groove with money takes patience, practice, and time! So if you are just getting started out, give yourself time to get grounded and centered with your money.

If you are a therapist in private practice ready to intentionally set your fees, call in aligned clients, and authentically niche down, I’m thrilled to share with you that I’m accepting applications for my next cohort of Grow a Profitable Practice from the Inside Out! It’s a 9-week group coaching program full of evidence-based financial psychology, tips and strategies, and guest experts in the field.
